At HOPE we have tried to reduce the number of passwords you need to remember by implementing Single Sign On with your HOPE Google account whereever possible. Because your HOPE account is they key to so many systems, it is important to use a strong password.
The strongest password is one that is long, unique and random. They're hard to remember and type though.
A good password is long, unique and easy for you to remember... it doesn't need to be çøMpIiK@†3D (complicated).
It must be unique. Do not use a password you use for any other system
The minimum length for staff passwords is 10 characters, 12 or more is recommended. The maximum length is 100 characters
It must meet Google's strength algorithm (some mix of upper case, lower case, numbers or special characters)
Use a quote from a movie you like; As you wish... or How's the serenity?
Choose four random words; blue rabbit table shoe
Remind yourself of a goal or rule; be patient with year 7 or no quiet time, no coffee
Don't use a common word/phrase, even with substitutions; P@$$w0rD, iloveyou, qwerty123 or 1234567890
Don't base it on your name or any other public information such as pets or children; AdamEcklund123, IsabelHOPE! or NaomiBen1!
Don't make it too hard to remember (unless you are using a password manager); zsfbkhGFXe,kjHVFyk.pikbv or !sC#4f1kgc7VHAxf^7vbHj
Don't use one of the examples I provided to the left 🙃
Password managers will help you remember and enter long, unique and random passwords. Many will also warn you if your password has been exposed in a known password breach.
There are several good options available including Google Password Manager, LastPass, BitWarden and 1Password.
1Password is usually $3 per month for individuals and $5 per month for families but HOPE staff can use it for free thanks to 1Password's generous support for charities and not-for-profits. All you need is a HOPE email address and the invitation link.
